Main Street, Maldon

Maldon is one of the most beautiful towns in Australia due to the way in which its nineteenth century architecture blends with the attractiveness of its natural setting. Only an hour and a half’s drive from Melbourne, the town is in the Central Goldfields region of Victoria and is a popular tourist destination. In 1966 Maldon was declared Australia’s "First Notable Town" due to the historical significance of its buildings and mining relics.

Looking down Maldon's historic Main Street. Heritage verandahs are as much a part of the landscape as the magnificent century-old elms. Maldon was classified by the National Trust in 1966 as Australia's "First Notable Town".

Sheltered by the rugged slopes of Mt. Tarrengower, Maldon is hemmed by forests of eucalypts and wattles. Throughout the bush there are traces of vanished settlements: old stone foundations, abandoned mines; mulberry and almond trees; irises and Italian lavender run wild.

Housed in a gracious old Main Street shop built in 1859, we sell a wide range of original antiquarian prints, maps, incunabula books and manuscript leaves from many different cultures and eras. We doubt that there is anywhere else in Victoria—or Australia for that matter—where you can buy a genuine 13th century hand-illuminated manuscript leaf or a 15th century manuscript Koran leaf.

A business of 25 years standing, the Gallery has a solid reputation of honesty and the use of quality materials and conservation techniques. We guarantee that prints are genuine, and goods may be returned within 7 days for a full refund if you, the customer, are not completely satisfied.

We are open 7 days a week, and browsers are always welcome. With over 2,000 prints in stock, it takes some time to view all the stock! The Gallery has a large collection of Australiana, and we conduct a search service for that difficult-to-obtain print or map. Come and see our shop for yourself some time, or simply view our stock on the internet to place your order.
