Broinowski's bird lithographs
These 1890 chromolithographs have enjoyed a resurgence in interest lately, as the asking price of the hand-coloured lithographs of John Gould stretches credulity. Gracius Broinowski immigrated to Australia from his native Poland in 1857 and eventually settled in Sydney in 1880. He was commissioned by the Department of Public Instruction to supply pictures of Australian birds & mammals. His precise scientific illustrations and observations of the birds of Australia were published in a six-volume work covering 700 birds in 300 chromolithographic plates.
We have just acquired about 200 of these charming illustrations, together with their original notes and are selling them at the bargain price of $75 each. You would normally expect to pay $100 to $250 for a Broinowski in excellent condition, as these are.
If you're looking for a particular bird, let us know and we may have it. Only a selection are listed here on the site. Bear in mind that many of the genus and common names have changed since Broinowski's time but we have kept to his naming.
As with all our stock, these are original prints from the era, we do not deal in modern reproductions.

Manuscript Processional Leaves.
We have only one left of these late 14th Century Italian Processional leaves in stock. These leaves are from tiny manuscript music books which were used by priests and choirboys as they walked in procession to the church, chanting and singing. Fine calligraphy, the neumes on four-line staves and illuminated initials on each leaf.
These are very difficult to find and much in demand for "rite" presents - christenings, confirmation, marriage etc. or simply as a beautiful present to a musician.

We also list stock on the Antiques Plus site: www.antique-art.com.au. Simply enter "leckie" in the "Search for a Dealer" box to access our listings.
